Daniel has extensive experience in handling major domestic and cross-border claims, especially in the financial lines as well as product liability and property matters. He frequently acts as monitoring and coverage counsel for insurers and as defence counsel for their insureds.

In addition to his claims practice, he regularly advises his clients from the insurance industry on the structuring of insurance programmes, new product development as wells as distribution, supervisory and other legal issues.  

While working as research assistant at a chair of the University of Bielefeld focussing on insurance law he earned his doctorate in liability insurance law. Over the years, Daniel has been a secondee to claims departments of insurers and he therefore knows the standards and requirements of this industry sector. He is regularly recognized by legal industry publications and as lecturer at conferences. He holds a “Master of Insurance Law (LL.M.)” and is specially certified in insurance law (Fachanwalt für Versicherungsrecht).

Daniel is recognized for insurance law by JUVE Handbook, Legal 500 and Handelsblatt in cooperation with Best Lawyers®.

• Acting as monitoring counsel regarding a multi-million euro D&O-claim resulting from a failed joint venture in the Russian energy sector
• Acting as defence counsel for a managing director of insolvent companies regarding a multi-million euro claim made by insolvency trustee
• Acting as coverage counsel for a legal expenses insurer with regard to multiple claims resulting from international fraud in connection with power plant and submarine projects in South America
• Handling thousands of investors´ claims concerning complex closed-end funds
• Acting as coverage counsel to defend a multi-million euro claim under a fidelity insurance concerning the insolvency of an investment company
• Defending insured entities regarding major product liability claims in the construction sector
• Acting as coverage counsel regarding testing clause exclusion to defend a multi-million euro claim under a recall cost insurance
• Advising on a multi-million property and business interruption loss caused by a fire incident
