Miguel is a Colombian qualified lawyer, based in Clyde & Co’s London office, with extensive experience in litigation and arbitration across Central and Latin America.
Miguel advises insurers and reinsurers on complex cross-border coverage issues, with a focus on jurisdictions including Argentina, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Guatemala. His experience includes Directors’ and Officers’ (D&O) liability, Professional Indemnity, and Property Damage. He also supports clients in monitoring local proceedings and managing subrogation actions across the region.
Before joining Clyde & Co, Miguel practised in Colombia, where he developed a strong practice in commercial litigation and arbitration. He has advised on shareholder disputes, construction-related claims, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including Dispute Boards under FIDIC model contracts.
Expérience
- Advising reinsurers in connection with regulatory investigations by the Colombian Contraloría into delays and cost overruns in the Bioenergy bioethanol project.
- Representing insurers in a USD 30 million professional indemnity coverage arbitration before the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, arising from a U.S.-based dispute involving a large Colombian bank.
- Advising reinsurers in a Property Damage coverage claim concerning a turbogenerator turbine failure at a Guatemalan sugar mill.
