Charles Marshall is an Associate in the Aviation Liability team based in our London office, with experience in both contentious and non-contentious aviation work, including aviation regulatory and commercial matters.

Charles has experience in contentious aviation matters acting for airlines, other aviation entities and their insurers across a wide range of instructions including personal injury, cargo, subrogations and major catastrophe work.

Within the field of aviation liability, Charles has assisted on a number of cargo and personal injury disputes and in the handling of two major losses alongside providing regulatory advice to airlines and airport authorities on a range of issues including consumer rights, EU environmental regulations and drone technology. 

Charles has experience in a wide range of complex cross-border commercial disputes, including claims in the Commercial Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of England and Wales.

Charles speaks conversational German and Italian.

Expérience
  • Assisting in the defence of a major contingent and possessed (re)insurer against multi-billion dollar claims brought by lessors in the Irish High Court concerning high value assets in and around Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
  • Assisting a maintenance, repair and overhaul company in High Court proceedings in its claim concerning contractual breaches and wrongly retained assets.
  • Managed defence of cargo claim in London Commercial Court under Article 18 of Montreal Convention 1999.
  • Managing defence of USD 2 million cargo claim in Texas resulting from complex contractual dispute.
  • Advising national airline and government on recourse under international law following a major loss.
  • Advising an international airport on anti-drone technology and its obligations under national law.
