Douglas Maag joined Clyde & Co in 2009, bringing to the firm a wealth of international regulatory, compliance and transactional experience gained over a thirty-year legal career as both outside and in-house counsel, and as a commercial arbitrator.

At Clyde & Co, and as a former general counsel for the international operations of one of the world’s largest global insurers, Doug has advised on a wide range of legal matters affecting business operations across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. He regularly counsels clients on US economic sanctions and trade regulations, including compliance with the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, anti boycott rules and anti money laundering requirements. His sanctions work includes counseling multinational clients on global sanctions compliance programs in line with guidance and expectations set by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC); guiding clients through the process of making voluntary self disclosures to OFAC; advising clients in relation to general licenses issued by OFAC, and applying for specific licenses on behalf of clients. 

Doug has also provided counsel on a variety of international transactional matters, including acquisitions, divestitures, establishment of new business operation, as well as legal support and analysis for emerging market opportunities. In addition, Doug has significant experience in trade finance and in handling and resolving complex commercial, insurance and reinsurance disputes across the US, London and Bermuda markets.
