James McBride is an associate based in our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. He specialises in employer’s liability, motor liability, occupier’s liability and other Catastrophic Injury & Large Loss matters.
Experienced across a range of contentious matters, James works for a number of national and international insurer clients and their policyholders in the defence of catastrophic injury and large loss claims. He also has experience in product liability matters and works for local authorities seeking enforcement orders under the Enterprise Act 2002.
James manages his team’s summary application practice with a focus on early disclosure in complex indemnity and liability cases. He handles cases of high value and across a broad range of procedures, including those in the Court of Session, and regularly appears in contentious hearings and proof diets in court. He also assists in the firm’s recovery practice on behalf of insurers acting as pursuers.
He regularly assists Equity Partners and colleagues in property damage with multi-faceted, catastrophic cases of high value. James is experienced in intricate liability and causation disputes including those involving complex orthopaedic, neurological and psychiatric injuries.
Alongside his practice, James is Clyde & Co’s Global Chair for the PACT (Parents and Carers Together) Employee Network across the UK and Europe.

Successfully defending the maintenance system of a large local authority following the degradation of the side of a prominent highway.
Securing advantageous settlements in a high value fatal motor claim involving both secondary victim claims, causation issues and complex loss of services and loss of society awards.
Acting for a local authority to successfully secure enforcement orders under the Enterprise Act 2002 against a commercial entity and its directors.
Assisting in an intellectual property case as to patent infringement and breach of contract.
Securing ‘Carer Confident’ accreditation for Clyde & Co’s UK practice.
